i used to know a guy like this.
he would just drift around, getting real excited about one thing after another. he did the same thing with people, it was interesting talking with him, if not kind of surreal. you got the feeling he was an outsider, he wasn't really participating in your life, just viewing it, provoking it subtley in different ways. i haven't heard from him in the last two years.
